JUVEDERM® Radiesse® VOLUMA™
Facial fillers (also called Dermal Fillers) are used by physicians to diminish lines and wrinkles on the face. Some leading physicians across the United States also utilize advanced injection techniques to contour and shape facial features with dermal fillers in a procedure called a liquid face lift. A growing number of individuals across the U.S. and internationally are delaying or avoiding face lifts because of the liquid face lift alternative with advanced dermal fillers such as JUVEDERM® XC, Radiesse® and VOLUMA™.
The new generation of facial fillers lasts longer than the first and second generations of fillers, which makes maintenance now very cost effective. In addition to filling facial lines, JUVEDERM® and Radiesse® stimulate collagen and fibroblasts in the dermis to help the skin regenerate itself to restore smoother, healthier skin and contours naturally.
Dr. Roberts has in-depth experience with a wide variety of fillers, including Restylane®, Sculptra® and Artefill®. Dr. Roberts has performed thousands of injections with first and second generation dermal fillers and now with advanced, longer-lasting fillers, such as Radiesse®, JUVEDERM® XC and VOLUMA™.
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a next generation dermal filler that is made of tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a natural water-based gel. Radiesse® works with the body, below the skin’s surface, to stimulate the production of collagen and encourage tissue regeneration.
Radiesse® provides both immediate and extended results. Initially, the water-based gel helps fill the wrinkle, line or fold. As this gel begins to dissipate, the calcium-based microspheres, essentially, form a “scaffold”, stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue growth in and around the treatment area. The regeneration of collagen progressively smoothes the treated area of the face to help restore natural, beautiful skin. Radiesse® is FDA approved to correct wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, including nasolabial folds. It is also used to treat marionette and smile lines.
In addition to treatment of wrinkles, Radiesse® is utilized to contour and shape facial features. Radiesse® can be an effective treatment option for sunken areas below the eyes (tear trough), and to augment cheeks, as well as fill in the areas on the sides of the chin (pre-jowl sulcus). Radiesse® can shape cheeks, chin and jaw lines similar to what facial implants will do, but has the added benefit of being completely customizable. Radiesse® is a leading filler for use in a liquid face lift, non-surgical face lift procedure. Additionally, Radiesse® is used to augment a face lift by restoring natural volume and curves in an aging face. Radiesse® lasts up to a year, or more.
After 24 hours of treatment with Radiesse®, you should be able to resume your normal activities. Side effects are typically moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. JUVEDERM® XC
JUVEDERM® XC is an FDA-approved advanced dermal filler that is composed of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body. Hyaluronic acid plays a key role in numerous areas of the body including the maintenance of skin volume and hydration, eye volume and shape, as well as joint lubrication and cushioning. Hyaluronic acid binds with collagen and transports essential nutrients to these fibers.
Cross-linking refers to a process in which the individual chains of hyaluronic acid are bound or ‘cross-linked’ together, transforming the liquid hyaluronic acid into a soft gel. The firmness of the gel depends on the degree of cross-linking of the individual hyaluronic acid chains. The body metabolizes cross-linked hyaluronic acid more slowly, resulting in a longer duration of effect.
JUVEDERM® adds volume to the face and smoothes moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. With advanced injection techniques, JUVEDERM® can also be used to lift and contour facial features.
The XC component of JUVEDERM® combines lidocaine for increased comfort during the procedure. JUVEDERM® XC is made by Allergan, the makers of BOTOX® and VOLUMA™. Like Radiesse®, JUVEDERM® XC lasts for up to a year or longer.
JUVEDERM® VOLUMA™
In October of 2013, the FDA approved the first and only Hyaluronic Acid filler, Juvederm® VOLUMA™ injectable gel, formulated to instantly add volume to the cheek area. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume. VOLUMA™ works to restore contour and a more youthful appearance by providing a subtle lift, for up to two years. VOLUMA™ is different than any other Juvederm® injectable gel filler product, in that VOLUMA™ is formulated to add volume to the cheek area, whereas other products target moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth areas. Juvederm® VOLUMA™ lasts longer than other HA dermal fillers, lasting up to two years! This means fewer injections and less overall downtime.
After 24 hours of treatment with Juvederm® or VOLUMA™, you should be able to resume your normal activities. Side effects are typically moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. For a complete list of side effects, please visit Side effects.
Dr. Roberts has received specialized training in injection techniques for VOLUMA™.
Regular BOTOX® treatments in conjunction with Radiesse®, JUVEDERM® XC or VOLUMA™ can help extend the duration of the fillers.
